I see in my twitter feed that it’s Mr. Butch Walker’s birthday today. So, in honor of that, I’d like to share some of my favorite songs from a man who’s been filling my earholes with music since I was a wee lil’ teenager.
“Every Monday” is a lil’ gem from the first thing I ever heard from Mr. Walker with his band, the Marvelous 3. Here’s a live version from a performance at the Gramercy Theatre in NY last fall, which I was personally at. I was pretty happy when this happened, mostly because it was the first time I’ve been to a show where he’s played it. You better believe that I sung every word too.
I don’t think you can go through his music without mentioning “Cigarette Lighter Love Song”, which he still plays at his shows. This is the recorded version off of ReadySexGo, but any live version you watch is so much better. This is from that same show at the Gramercy that I was at.
“Alicia Amnesia” is probably my favorite from Left of Self Centered.
There’s many obvious songs to pick from Letters, but I always thought “Promise” was such a pretty song. Then again, I’m a silly romantic at heart, so maybe that’s why I like it so much.
“Ponce De Leon Ave” is such a fun song and another song that really shines in the his live shows.
“They Don’t Know What We Know”… I’m running out of reasons to let you know why I love this guy’s music…
“Sweethearts” is a favorite of mine from The Spade. Here’s the version with Mr. Daryl Hall himself from Butch’s episode of Live From Daryl’s House. Why? Because he’s playin’ with freakin’ Daryl Hall.
